The MWDRS decided to up the payout ante for their 2024 season, specifically the Smack Down event on September 19th through the 21st, 2024 at the brand-new Flying H Drag Strip in Missouri. A purse just north of a quarter-million dollars has been announced for just the Pro Mod classes, with the Main Event winner getting a $150,000 payday.

In a time when it seems all we hear about is venues closing, more and more private racing circuits are springing up across America. My question is, why haven’t we seen a drag racing-minded developer trying the same thing?

With the huge upswing of drag-and-drive events in the last two years, several have speculated what it takes to be competitive in classes, and what the top 100 averages look like, has been mentioned a few times.

We will see Jason and Tina Golden on three drag-and-drive events, including Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks in their ‘89 Mustang. But when 2025 rolls around, we will see the husband-and-wife team rolling in a new ride, this 1968 Mustang fastback.

After years of running test and tunes and bracket races, Amos Eason took the plunge into the drag-and-drive world by participating in his first drag-and-drive event at the One Guy’s Garage Drag Weekend event in his home state of Iowa in 2022.

As in 2023, a stacked field of Pro Mod entries came into Florida looking to secure the $100,000 payday in the World Series of Pro Mod event, and every qualifying hit mattered. The 32-car field would see a .066 of-a-second spread amongst the 32 qualifiers, a tight field indeed.

Nearly 26 years after making his first laps in a Top Fuel dragster, NHRA Top Fuel driver Clay Millican still smiles just as big every time he suits up for a 300-plus mile per hour pass. But recently, Clay suited up for a different kind of drag strip run, and this one brought a lot of emotion with it as well.

It’s not uncommon for someone to have a job and a hobby where the line between work and play becomes fuzzy. For Darren Harden, it was both with classic cars and go karts. Drag racing took a back seat for a while, until drag-and-drive brought him back to the fold.

Day three of Sick Week at Gainesville Raceway brought Trevor Branden to the lanes with renewed hopes, and an 8.16 at 167 mph would be the best run of Treavor and Erin’s week thus far. But some white smoke at the end of the run signaled the end of the GT-R’s Sick Week fun.

The Winter 2024 edition of Sick The Mag has just dropped and I’m having a blast reading all the tales of torment and triumph from Death Week. Now that the dust has settled and most of the emotional scars have healed, I’m wondering why we aren’t planning to do it all again.

Originally opened in 1958, Thompson Drag Raceway was billed as one of the early race tracks in Ohio. But now, rumors are circulating that the future of the drag strip may be in jeopardy.

The National Mustang Racers Association’s 2024 opening event recently took place at Gainesville Raceway, with several Sick Week and Sick Summer participants amongst those vying for a class title.

After five days of action at South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP), one of the biggest drag radial tire themed races is in the books as Lights Out 15 has crowned champions in multiple classes.

The drag-and-drive that started it all, Hot Rod Drag Week, hits the twenty-year mark in 2024, and as the additional attention swarmed around the event, it was widely assumed that registration would sell out in a matter of minutes.

“The drag-and-drive community is awesome. Total strangers help each other at a moment’s notice. People pull over to check on each other, but have no idea who they are. It’s fun to see all the unique and non-traditional builds. Overall, just a really fun event.”
