Hot Rod Drag Week Sells Out Within Minutes of Opening Registration Today

The drag-and-drive that started it all, Hot Rod Drag Week (HRDW), hits the twenty-year mark in 2024, and as the additional attention swarmed around the event, it was widely assumed that registration would sell out in a matter of minutes.

It was confirmed this morning just minutes after the 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time gate opening, HRDW was sold out. But as before, the waitlist is already online, open and accepting applications.

The track selection for the 2024 edition of Hot Rod Drag Week pulls at the nostalgia strings a little as well, as this year’s event will hit four tracks in the Midwest from September 15th through the 20th.

National Trail Raceway, which will be the starting and ending facility on this year’s tour, was used on the first Hot Rod Drag Week held in 2005. The facility also gained notoriety as the track that witnessed Larry Larsen become the first drag-and-drive car to crack the 6-second barrier with a 6.94 pass in 2010 in route to winning his third-straight HRDW.

This year’s Hot Rod Drag Week also will visit US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan, another track used on the 2005 edition of HRDW.

The remaining two days will be filled with a visit to another Michigan track, Milan Dragway, and then a lone day visit to one of the most legendary tracks on the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) tour, Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, where competitors will run the same storied track where the NHRA US Nationals are held.

Even though HRDW is sold out on registration, possible competitors have two options going forward: to register for the waitlist here, or show up on Sunday September 15th and wait for a possible spot to open up.

Although the second option may seem a long-odds chance, in the history of HRDW, no one has ever been turned away on registration and tech day due to lack of available spots.
