For many that strive to attend a drag-and-drive event, you can sometimes hit a wall where you realize that attending that year might not be in the card. Some might have a back-up plan, or in rare case, multiple options.

For Jody Ames, the 2024 edition of Hot Rod Drag Week marks the first time he is able to take his original ‘Plan A’ car, a 2016 Ford Mustang.

One of the players in the top three at this year’s Rowdy Radial class at Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive was Kolby Bouck, and although his 2017 Mustang showed consistent 5.0-second performance, he has decided to raise his game for the 2025 edition of Sick Week.

After pushing his first ‘Snot Rocket’ Ford Mustang into the 6-second range at over 200 mph, Brett LaSala made the jump in 2022 to a lighter chassis to pursue his next set of goals.

After two years, multiple victories and becoming a record-holder in the drag-and-drive scene, the ‘Snot Rocket 2.0’ 2012 Mustang has gone up for sale.

Although there are hundreds of reputable engine builders, unless you are aiming for a restricted racing class or have specific needs, crate engines are a great choice for a street or strip build.

“A 3-second pass was never a goal of mine with this car and engine combo, because it didn’t seem very possible. But recently as we got faster, and the community started asking to see it, we decided to go for it!”

One of the newest competitors to Sick Week in 2024 is Kolby Bouck, who made the trip from Edmonton, Alberta Canada to Orlando. Kolby has owned a few Mustangs, but this 2017 model showed up ready to party in the Rowdy Radial class.

So a 3.99 pass might not have been in the cards, but that doesn’t mean LaSala didn’t try to get there. With Job Spetter tuning “from the hallway of his hotel (on vacation)”, LaSala continued to pick away at his elapsed time record.

“I bought the car about three years ago as a roller and I’ve just been chipping away at it. It has a SFI 25.3 chassis already, and the cage work was complete and certified, had all the tin work done, and brakes done too.”

To come back from the fire that sidelined him, combined with a new event he’d never competed in, might rattle some, but Zach Meyers was up to the task.
