Brett LaSala Continues to Push the Coyote Platform, Almost Gets a 3-Second 1/8-Mile Time Slip in Testing the ‘Snot Rocket 2.0’ Street-Legal Mustang!

While some of the world still hasn’t started racing yet in 2024, Florida continues to have massive events, as well as some eye-opening results from test and tunes and private testing events.

Brett LaSala had an impressive 2023, winning four major events, but one of his accomplishments that was kept under wraps for a while was a 4.09 at 184 mph blast during a private test session at Orlando Speed World Dragway.

But the 2012 Ford Mustang known as ‘Snot Rocket 2.0’ is already off to an impressive 2024, and last night the Mustang got even quicker and faster in testing.

LaSala, who scored a repeat victory at Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive to start his 2024 season, followed it with a win at TX2K in the Street Car class at Texas Motorplex about two weeks ago.

He also made a career change this year, joining the work force at Motion Raceworks, Rife Sensors, TBM Brakes and Fluid Works recently. We’ve heard those guys and gals like to race, and LaSala decided to give the Fast Forward Race Engines and Precision 83/85-millimeter Next Gen R turbos some additional exercise.

With great air quality and an oxygen-rich Density Altitude within 500 feet of sea level on Friday night, LaSala rolled the Snot Rocket 2.0 out to Bradenton Motorsports Park for some test laps in eighth-mile trim.

Right away, he matched his previous best eighth-mile e.t., a 4.09, on the first pass, but discovered a problem just as quickly as LaSala discovered the performance. “We quickly learned we were at a rear shock limitation and couldn’t 60 foot faster than 1.05 without a wheelie,” LaSala said.

So a 3.99 wasn’t in the cards, but that doesn’t mean LaSala didn’t try to get there. With Job Spetter tuning “from the hallway of his hotel (on vacation)”, as well as Jay Meagher from Real Street and the entire TBM Brakes crew watching on, LaSala continued to pick away at his elapsed time record.

First the 4.09, then a 4.06, then an eye opening 4.01 lap with a 1.053 60 foot time, and finally a 4.03 before he called it good for the evening.

To reflect on the 4.01 at 186.98 mph pass, this betters his previous personal best 4.092 at 184.90 pass, with a 1.068 60 foot, in all categories by a bunch, as well as resets the Coyote street car world record mark!

This also improves on the eighth-mile time of 4.129 at 184.07 mph from his 6.26 at 227 mph record blast at Sick Week on the final day.

And although the car was in eighth-mile trim for last night, LaSala is confident it can make similar strides on his quarter-mile setup. “It’s worth a few numbers, but we can use this data and get close to this in 1/4 gearing,” he said. “To think that we are a shock change away from going 3’s in a 2950-pound car with a cast block Coyote engine that could literally drive home from the track after the pass is almost unbelievable!”

LaSala is already signed up for a pair of events this spring: The Reunion at Bradenton Motorsports Park on April 19th and 20th, then he’ll travel to Carolina Dragway in Aiken, South Carolina for Street Car Braggin Rights May 9th through the 11th.
