Brett LaSala Runs a 3.99 at 187 MPH Pass – Becomes First Coyote-Powered Street Car to Run a 3-Second 1/8-Mile!

We’ve reported on the accomplishments of Brett LaSala and the 2012 Ford Mustang known as ‘Snot Rocket 2.0’ a bunch this year, as the twin-turbocharged Coyote platform has produced some performances that have left people stunned.

Last night at South Georgia Motorsports Park, LaSala became the first coyote-powered street car to collect a 3-second eighth-mile time slip!

LaSala currently holds the record for quickest and fastest time on a drag-and-drive for a Coyote-powered ride, as well as a radial tire car, a 6.26 at 227 mph, posted on the final day of Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive this year.

The eighth-mile time on that run was 4.129 at 184.07 mph, and since then, LaSala has continued to work on bettering those numbers.

Just over a week ago at a test session at Bradenton Motorsports Park, the Rife Sensors-backed ride of LaSala clocked a 4.01 at 186.98 mph pass, and LaSala thought he had reached the limitations of the shocks. But last night at SGMP, he discovered otherwise! “I changed them, and then changed them back,” LaSala mentioned, as his evening began with a trio of 4.0-second time slips.

“After the first few passes, we were unsure it was going to happen,” said LaSala. “We added some boost and sent it!” On the fourth run, history was made as LaSala clocked his first 3-second pass in ‘Snot Rocket 2.0’ with a 3.998 at 187.99 mph blast.

The 60 foot time came in at 1.049 seconds, and the 330 foot mark was eclipsed in 2.686 seconds. Boost numbers are a tightly guarded secret, but suffice it to say the Precision Turbo 83/85-millimeter Next Gen R turbochargers were pushing a good amount of compressed air into the Fast Forward Race Engines-built stock block Coyote.

“I saw the boards in the car,” said LaSala when asked if he knew it was a 3-second pass. “It’s all a bit blurry at those speeds, but could see it started with a 3!

A 3-second pass was never a goal of mine with this car and engine combo, because it didn’t seem very possible. But recently as we got faster, and the community started asking to see it, we decided to go for it!

This accomplishment feels pretty special. I am very thankful for the group of friends that surround this car to make it what it is, and continue to motivate me, and push me to do what it takes to get the job done!”

LaSala thanked the team of SGMP, including new owner Raul Torres and track manager Ramon Perez-Servilla, for providing the opportunity to go testing. “South Georgia Motorsports Park has been on another level, and I cannot wait to race there again,” said LaSala. You guys are the real deal!

LaSala and the ‘Snot Rocket 2.0’ is signed up for the upcoming The Reunion at Bradenton Motorsports Park on April 19th and 20th, then will make their way north to Carolina Dragway in Aiken, South Carolina for Street Car Braggin Rights on May 9th through the 11th.
