Are Bryant Goldstone and His 6-Second AMC Becoming the Face of Drag-and-Drive?

With the increase in the number of drag-and-drive events in the last three years (2024 has now swelled to 40 different events on the Sick Drag-and-Drive calendar), it’s becoming more commonplace to see competitors at more than one event during a calendar year.

There are several that have made their mark in the drag-and-drive world, and one of the top ones is Bryant Goldstone.

The Sick Powerfest Presented by Dodge & M1 Concourse is coming to Pontiac, Michigan on Friday, August 9th, 2024. The WORLD BURNOUT CHAMPIONSHIP take center stage for a $25,000 purse, plus tons of cool rides will fill M1 Concourse in the Sick Spit Show and Shine, a Manufacturers Midway and a ton more! The majority have come to know Goldstone because of his 1973 AMC Javelin, but he actually got his start in drag-and-drive at the 2010 edition of Hot Rod Drag Week in a small-tire 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle.

Powered at the time by a ProCharger-fed big block, he participated in a total of four Hot Rod Drag Week events in the Chevelle, scoring a Modified Power Adder class win in 2012, and a runner-up in the same class in 2013.

The AMC first appeared on the scene in 2014 at Hot Rod Drag Week, but didn’t complete its first drag-and-drive. One year later, the Ultimate Iron class debuted, and Goldstone produced the first 6-second average for the class at 6.95 to collect his first win with the car.

Goldstone collected two more Ultimate Iron class wins at Hot Rod Drag Week in 2016 and 2018, skipping the 2017 event in-between.

In 2019, he jumped into the Unlimited class at Hot Rod Drag Week, finishing second to Tom Bailey’s ‘Sick Seconds 2.0.’

When the Hot Rod Drag Week returned in 2021 after a one-year absence, Goldstone was on his way to another top two finish in the Unlimited class when the AMC suffered a crash on day five.

The storied car was rebuilt in less than one year for the 2022 edition of Hot Rod Drag Week, now sporting a black exterior with red graphics, flipped from the original paint job the car debuted with in 2014.

Goldstone claimed his fourth Ultimate Iron class title, his fifth Hot Rod Drag Week win overall, and it started what would be near class domination with the AMC going forward.

2023 started with Goldstone’s first appearance at Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive, and he was considered a favorite for the win in the Unlimited Iron class. But day three at South Georgia Motorsports Park would result in the potent AMC on the sidelines, with breakage meaning a rare Did Not Finish result.

A little over three months later, Goldstone rebounded at the inaugural Sick Summer Presented by TBM Brakes. The Javelin would be in full control of the Unlimited Iron class, posting the quickest and fastest run of the week for all competitors with a 6.67 at 218 mph, and earning the class win.

Goldstone’s third event of the year would be Hot Rod Drag Week, where he posted the second quickest and fastest run of the week at 6.56 at 218 mph, and scored his fifth Ultimate Iron class win in six appearances, and sixth Hot Rod Drag Week win.

He followed it with his first appearance at Southeast Street N Yeet, where the AMC scored the Unlimited class accolades, his third major event win of the year.

2024 would find Goldstone leveling up his game once again, as the AMC came into Sick Week on full beast mode. Goldstone reset the Unlimited Iron class records with a 6.42 at 228 mph pass on day four at South Georgia Motorsports Park, a 6.51 average for the week, and his first Sick Week event victory.

Goldstone brought another impressive performance to Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks, opening with a record-setting 6.40 at 225 mph pass on day one.

The warmer temperatures would slow him a bit during the week, but a solid 6.60 average would score Goldstone another Unlimited Iron class victory, his second-straight for the year as well as his second-straight at Sick Summer.

Goldstone wasted little time before his third drag-and-drive appearance of 2024, rolling into Rocky Mountain Race Week (RMRW) 1.0 Presented by Sick the Magazine.

His first appearance on RMRW was a brutal one, battling through a ripped oil pan, fuel injector issues and problems making boost. But Goldstone continued to pound out 6-second runs throughout the week, and would join Larry Larson as the second competitor in RMRW history with a 6-second average, a 6.962.

Goldstone also scored his third major drag-and-drive win of the season by earning the Unlimited class victory, and also his second victory in two weeks’ time.

As of this writing, the AMC Javelin has competed in fourteen drag-and-drive events since its debut, completing twelve of them. Goldstone holds ten class victories with the car. Crunching these numbers means 71-percent of the time Goldstone attends a drag-and-drive with the AMC, he’s winning his class. That percentage jumps to 83-percent if he completes the week.
