We’re just 1 day away from the 3rd annual Sick Powerfest Presented by Dodge and M1 Concourse. But Sick Pizza and Sullivan’s Public House decided to start the party a bit early - co-hosting the Hops and Horsepower meet on Wednesday night, August 7th.

Roadkill Nights’ drag racing element will be moved from Woodward Ave to the straightaway of M1 Concourse’s road course in a major shift for the unique event.

Combining the best elements of street racing with the accuracy and safety of a closed race track, Roadkill Nights has brought a new meaning to the street racing world. In nine years, thousands of competitors have participated in legal ‘street racing’ in Michigan, and the 2024 edition this Saturday, August 10th, 2024 promises to bring more excitement to the streets!

“Wheels are put on cars to take ‘em down the road, pool tables are meant to sit in your garage and talk about.” 

We’ve seen James Rowlett at drag-and-drive events, burnout contests and even a television show appearance. After Mother Nature spoiled his chances for a repeat win at Sick Powerfest in 2023, James will return to Michigan this week looking to claim victory in the World Burnout Championship.

The big burnouts associated with Sick Powerfest Presented by Dodge and M1 Concourse are legendary. Some of the best rides from the USA and Australia will be in attendance, including this ’69 delivery van from the Skids4Kids camp.

The name Andrew ‘Lynchy’ Lynch probably doesn’t mean a whole lot to most Americans. But down in his native Australia, Lynchy is a bonafide folk hero. Why? Because he does the sickest burnouts in a country where it’s virtually the national pastime.

Once upon a time, NHRA added maybe the most ground-breaking class to its offerings since its inception. Pro Mod? Top Fuel? Funny Cars? Nope — Junior Street.

Chevrolet recently announced the latest Corvette ZR1 model, stated for roll out in spring 2025. Packing a 5.5-liter LT7 flat plane crankshaft engine and a pair of turbochargers, the output is a staggering 1,064 horsepower at 7,000 RPM, and 828 lb/feet of torque at 6,000 RPM.

About one year ago, news broke that Heartland Motorsports Park, a multi-use facility in Topeka, Kansas that first saw use in 1989, would be closing at the end of the year. The track was recently reported sold on July 24th; what’s the next chapter?

Combining the basics of a drag-and-drive event with a final day of eliminations to crown class winners, the Heads Up Hustle returned to Michigan for its second year. Milan Dragway and Mid Michigan host two days of qualifying runs and set an average for the final day, where eliminations are held and class winners are crowned.

After a little over a week between our last drag-and-drive event coverage, we jump back into the action with the recently completed fourth annual Miles of Mayhem event. Covering just over 1700 kilometers across Canada (over 1000 miles), contestants can compete in ten different classes.

So an epic vehicles - the Sick the Mag Ute - has been claimed; what’s next? We have an announcement coming on Monday, July 29th on our next big giveaway!  

A couple of months ago I tagged along with Tom and Aydan Bailey as they raced at the first-ever Drop The Hammer event in Michigan. It was an 1/8th-mile, three-day drag-and-drive deal. It started at US 131 Motorsports Park on Friday, moved to Mid Michigan Motorplex on Saturday, and returned to US 131 on Sunday.  

After ten years, a soft opening in 2022, and being shuttered for almost two years, a drag strip in West Virginia will get a second chance. And a former IHRA / PDRA championship family will lead the charge to put action on the track once again.

‘Been there, done that’ - it’s a phrase that could be applied to a lot of things in the world, especially car builds. Sure, there are unique builds out there, but a majority of them have similar drivelines that are employed by thousands of other examples. Until now.

Ask any seasoned drag-and-driver and they’ll tell you that the road portion is the hardest part of these events.  Sucesses on the drag strip are easily put into check if your street drive ends your hopes of completing the event, and the age-old adage comes violently into focus: to finish first, first you must finish.
