This International van known as ‘Frosty’ is one of the latest rides to come out of the Skids4Kids and Hidden Motorsports camp, and for Seth Cavanaugh, it’s been the vehicle that has changed his life into one filled with burnouts at a multitude of events across the country.

“I built a 1975 Chevrolet Vega wagon for burnouts at the first Freedom Factory event,” said Seth. “It's snowballed since then.”

A former circle track racer with over a decade of experience, Seth made the jump from racing with the tires hooked up, to the engine racing and clouds of smoke life of a burnout competitor.

After a little over two and-a-half years with the Vega powered by a small block Chevrolet and Turbo 350 transmission, Seth made the switch to a big block powerplant and a Powerglide transmission in the car known as the ‘Liberty wagon.’

Despite several top five finishes with the Vega wagon, Seth was ready for the next step. “Being with Skids4Kids, I wanted to build something more visually appealing to the kids that I could theme into a way to support some kids,” said Seth.

That led him to this ’69 International delivery van, discovered in a Wyoming horse pasture. “I worked on it on weekends for a couple months,” said Seth. “Then decided I was going to quit my job, and knuckle down to get this thing built.”

Locating a 1983 Chevy Blazer for a chassis donor, Seth started slicing and dicing to marry the two. The big block engine was built by RPM Machine in Sturgis, FTI Performance provided the Powerglide transmission, and Quick Performance for the rear end to transfer the power to the Detroit Steel wheels to create the clouds of smoke.

Hidden Motorsports jumped in as well, and Seth’s vision of the ice cream burnout van was complete.

‘Frosty’ debuted this year at the Freedom Factory Burnout Rivals in April. “I hauled 32 hours from Wyoming to Florida,” said Seth. “Only to have some major fueling issues, and have a lame run. My life motto is if it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.”

Just a month later, an upgraded Frosty rolled into Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park for Cleetus McFarland’s next round of Burnout Rivals. “50 seconds into an awesome burnout run, the camshaft gear bolts backed out,” said Seth. That in turn caused the gear to fall off at 6000 rpm, trashing the valve train.

“We missed one event to get the motor rebuilt, then picked up the engine on my way from Wyoming to Minnesota for Powercruise USA. Ol’ Fireball Andy helped me put the engine in at the track in Minnesota, and we go out and win Powercruise USA the next night.”

Fully committing to a life of burnouts has meant Seth traveling over 28,000 miles since April with Frosty, visited several events, and even getting the van added to the Burnout Masters video game.

“With a year of trials and tribulation, I think I finally have a good race program set up and have the bugs ironed out,” said Seth. “As long as I can perform, and Frosty keeps her big show fits put away, there's no reason this big block powered shoebox can't bring home the win.”
