TJ’s Wonder Wagon

There’s a soft spot for wagons among drag-and-drive events. Perhaps it’s one of the few disciplines of motorsport where a wagon can actually be an advantage.

“We have plenty of room for cargo, friends, and beer,” TJ Linebaugh notes, as he stands next to his sky blue ‘78 Ford Fairmont.

Linebaugh originally purchased the car for $1400 in Georgia in 2015. He built the car himself (“I’m not sure I know what I am doing,” he notes), dropping in a 5.3 LS.

“It is a ridiculous shade of blue, people love it. You can’t go anywhere without someone saying my grandma had one of those. This car isn’t quite fast enough for some of the heads up stuff around so it fits into (drag-and-drive events) being a station wagon.”

All up, it has been as quick as 8.87/152mph. Linebaugh’s quickest time of Midwest Drags was a 9.005, with an average of 9.221 for the week, placing him seventh in Street Race Small Block Power Adder.
