As trends come and go, one thing that’s shown staying power is the drag racing world and the history behind it. As each year rolls by, the history of racing, as well as the cars that participated as part of it, become talking points at more benchracing sessions and staging lane gatherings. It’s just cool to see cars with history come back into focus once again, and for Darin Hendricks, he’s ready to write the next chapter of a storied history for this Ford Mustang Cobra.

Now, the fact this is a real deal 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra, one of 5100 originally built for the model year (including the rare Cobra R models). But despite its collectability, Darin was anything but gentle with it. “It has spent most of its life as a race car,” said Darin. But after almost two decades as a race ride, Darin is ready for the next chapter - drag-and-drive action with a supercharged combination under the hood, and a 5-speed manual transmission!

Although most go for the Coupe / Notch or hatchback model of the popular Fox Mustang, Devin Vanderhoof went for a rare Feature Edition convertible. And although some are happy with the triple white option exterior / interior / convertible top and low production numbers, Devin decided to forge a deeper connection.

This ’93 convertible kicked up plenty of attention in 2023, setting the small tire world on fire by lowering the Rowdy Radial average to a 4.64, with a best single pass of 4.595 at 167 mph on the tiny 26-inch-tall x 8.5-inch-wide radials accomplished by driver Jordan Tuck. That win would be the first of three on the year for Devin as a car owner, as Josh Davis added a Sick Summer victory and a Hot Rod Drag Week class win as well.

Now, after a 6-month period where the car got numerous updates and upgrades, Devin is ready to get testing and prepare for another solid season of drag-and-drive work.

One of the players in the top three at this year’s Rowdy Radial class at Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive was Kolby Bouck, and although his 2017 Mustang showed consistent 5.0-second performance, he has decided to raise his game for the 2025 edition of Sick Week.

The Stark family first joined the drag-and-drive community at the 2019 edition of Rocky Mountain Race Week, with father Tom Stark wielding the shifter handle in his ‘55 Chevy wagon stick shift entry. But just three later, son Blayne and daughter MaCayla moved into the driver’s seat.

This week’s submission comes from Wyatt Nejdl, who joined father Doug for the second time on a drag-and-drive at this year’s Sick Summer with their 1988 Ford Mustang.

Despite the lack of sleep and another year of thrashing, Jeff Kurczak is looking forward to spending time with his family on Sick Summer. Jeff will be piloting his Godzilla-powered ‘93 Mustang, while his son will wheel an ‘80 Fairmont. For daughter Aly Kurczak, she will participate as a competitor on her first drag-and-drive ever, after riding with Jeff on last year’s Sick Summer.

With just a couple weeks to go until Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks, most figured Devin Vanderhoof and Josh Davis were preparing for a trip to Illinois to defend their overall win. So you can imagine the shock and surprise when Devin posted a video yesterday with the ’93 Mustang convertible stripped to a bare shell and roll cage!

“With the space we have now (at Moore Race Chassis), advancing the business is the top of our priority list. The opportunity is too great to pass up.”

“My oldest son Michael McMahon III wanted to do a drag-and-drive. And I have too. And he loves baseball, so what better one to do than Sick Summer that goes past the Field of Dreams!”

At Sick Summer Presented by TBM Brakes in 2023, Eddie Ensor lowered not only the naturally aspirated average to a staggering 7.53, but also the single run record to a 7.46 at 184.61 mph. Could he improve on those numbers in 2024?

“The first Sick Week, we took dad’s car. The second year, we took my 1988 model. This year, we decided to take both models.”

We will see Jason and Tina Golden on three drag-and-drive events, including Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks in their ‘89 Mustang. But when 2025 rolls around, we will see the husband-and-wife team rolling in a new ride, this 1968 Mustang fastback.

The response to both has been a combination of shock and awe, as well as wondering who might step up to take possession of these 6-second and 7-second proven rides.
