Supercharging Sick the Magazine’s Drag-and-Drive Events is the Latest Chapter to Vortech Engineering’s Powerful Three-Plus Decades of History

When mentioning power adders, there are a ton of choices in today’s market. But when it comes to superchargers, one made quite the impression with turn-key systems for Ford engines back in the 1990s, and that was Vortech Engineering.

Since that start of the business, they’ve added more power to a lot of rides, and now it’s becoming just as common to see Vortech units on 7-second and 8-second rides as the thousands of fun street cars and daily drivers.

Getting their start in 1990 thanks to Jim Middlebrook, Vortech Engineering added a new chapter to the centrifugal supercharger when they got into the business. Vortech units made their way into many a street bruiser, and were also used by noted Mustang modifier and car builder Steve Saleen.

After being in business for about a decade, Jim purchased his former employer’s business, Paxton Superchargers, and added it to the Vortech portfolio. Today, Vortech’s expanded offerings with Paxton onboard means well over 100 different kits are available.

The product line-up includes kits for the Big 3 manufacturers, as well as kits for several Ford modular and pushrod applications, GM and Ford carburetor-based set-ups, and even blower kits for Vipers. Some companies use Vortech and Paxton superchargers for their kits, including Corvettes, BMWs and more!

Past Sick Week class winners William and Gaby Lujan employ the Vortech-brand superchargers on their Ford Mustangs, which use pushrod small-block Ford engines to clock mid 8-second time slips.

Vortech has now expanded their product offerings to include fuel pumps and booster pumps, air charge and discharge tube kits, intercooler kits, and a lot more. Separate head units are also available for enthusiasts that want to upgrade their kits for more power.
