Hargett dominates opening day of Midwest Drags

Summit Midwest Drags day one is in the books, as teams struggled with a racing surface that was hung over from the monsoon rains overnight.

A later start to the day allowed the track prep team to do what they could, and the rest would be left up to the tuning skills of the drag-and-drivers assembled.

The quickest runs of the day came from Ryan Hargett, as the Coyote-powered Mustang navigated its way to a 7.534/188mph after an earlier 7.854/169mph. Ryan leads overall and the Super Street Small Block Power Adder class.

Glenn Hunter Jr was second quickest overall, and leads Pro Street Power Adder courtesy of a 7.760 and a 7.947. Glenn had a big moment after the finish line on one of his runs, switching lanes in the braking area.

Garrett Mitchell (Cleetus McFarland) had new Steve Morris power in his El Camino, and made run after run as he searched for a way to get down the track. Eventually he settled for 7.847 and 7.890 passes. As the only entrant in Unlimited (due to using methanol), Garrett is focused on a solid overall result.

Some impressive passes were made in the ‘limited’ classes, including an 8.510 and 8.501 set from Brian Acton (above) in Street Race Small Block Power Adder and a 10.031 and 10.001 by Bill Spangler in Street Machine.

The staging lanes were whittled down in the early afternoon as our road warriors set course for Walt’s Hot Rods in Brownsburg, Indiana, approximately two hours from Edgewater Motorsport Park. Trailer burnouts - yeah, we had trailer burnouts!

Day two of Summit Midwest Drags takes place tomorrow at US 41 Drag Strip in Morocco, Indiana.
