After Experiencing Their First Drag and Drive Together in One Car, Bryan and JoAnna Reid to Double Their Efforts with Two Cars on Sick Michigan Miles
Although she comes from a family with a long history of not only racing, but also some quick Ford Mustangs, JoAnna Iacobelli Reid has never done a drag and drive event before 2023.
She changed that status by jumping into the second running of Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive, with husband Bryan joining her as co-pilot in her 8-second supercharged 2018 Mustang. And although she’s traded her helmet to work at events recently, JoAnna and Bryan have plans to jump back into a competitor spot.

“I went in with zero expectations and research,” JoAnna said about her Sick Week approach. “My thoughts were I didn’t want to research or watch what others did before the event and possibly make a wrong decision. I’d rather participate and learn what we need to change for next time.”
Although work kept her from competing at some recent drag-and-drives, JoAnna has been able to participate in a few drag-and-drive events, including the Edelbrock Sick 66 Presented by Edelbrock. “It was such a great time,” said JoAnna. “It just fuels the fire to do another in my own car, and even Bryan doing one in his Mustang.”
That opportunity hit home with the announcement of Sick Michigan Miles Presented by Driven Racing Oil, right in the Reid’s home state. “The timing worked out great, and I love that Woodward Dream Cruise is being incorporated,” JoAnna said. “It’s also going to be very fun to see the back roads of my state that I haven’t been able to experience.”
Unlike her first drag and drive event, JoAnna and Bryan are planning to bring two cars on this event, as JoAnna’s 2018 Mustang will be joined by Bryan’s 1994 Mustang. Bryan’s took a page from JoAnna for his Mustang, replacing the existing pushrod Ford engine with a Coyote powerplant with a Whipple supercharger on top. But behind the powerful engine, Bryan changed things up, opting for a manual transmission, surrounded by a 2018 Mustang interior, neatly fitted into the SN-95 chassis.
Although she won’t be as far from home for her second drag and drive event as a competitor, JoAnna admits this one brings a different set of interests and challenges. “I think the biggest challenge for me would be that Bryan and I are both going to be running our cars,” said JoAnna. “So, I won’t have him as my copilot to help me throughout the event.”
Despite having double the cars to prep and no co-pilot as press time, JoAnna is excited about all that Sick Michigan Miles will encompass. “Now that I’ve done Sick 66, I really have high expectations for the historic checkpoints and parts of Michigan that are very iconic,” she said. “I’m really excited for this experience; to be able to show my friends from out of state where we live and show them how beautiful Michigan is.”
Following in the footsteps of our Edelbrock Sick 66 event in 2024, Sick the Magazine will host a pair of ‘one-off’ events in 2025, the first being in our home state with Sick Michigan Miles Presented by Driven Racing Oil, August 10th through the 17th, 2025!
