Doing a drag and drive event in the home state of Sick the Magazine marks not only the first time a major event has been held solely in the state of Michigan, but also a first time for a couple additional classes.
Sick Michigan Miles Presented by Driven Racing Oil, scheduled for August 10th through the 17th, 2025, will feature Junior Street and Motorcycle classes for the first time at a Sick the Mag event, competing on the same eighth-mile standard!

This event is one of many that was discussed for the popular ‘one-off’ event structure that Tom Bailey first tried at Death Week on the west coast in 2023. “The thing I’ve preached about a drag and drive event is about the adventure,” Tom said. “Your main goals should be surviving the week and creating some awesome memories.”
Tom expanded on the first of two special Sick the Mag drag and drive events in 2025, and that is doing a complete event within the state of Michigan. “When the idea was first proposed, I started thinking about how nice the areas around northern Michigan are,” Tom said. “The more Luke Nieuwhof (Sick The Mag editor) and I discussed it, it made sense that we could visit four great tracks, incorporate an August tradition for automotive enthusiasts, and do a 1,000 mile road trip in one week’s time.”
The second big element about Sick Michigan Miles Presented by Driven Racing Oil, is adding the Junior Street and Motorcycle classes into the program. “A bunch of enthusiasts have asked me about the possibility of adding those two classes to a Sick event,” said Tom. “After weighing our options, we’re excited about them being a part of Michigan Miles.”
The Junior Street class, introduced a couple years ago by the NHRA, was created as part of their youth racing program to give 13-16 year olds an opportunity to go racing before earning their full-scale license. Different from Junior Dragster racing, the Junior Street program is an eighth-mile set-up for full-sized street cars or trucks, meeting program requirements. Approved vehicles must be registered and insured, feature mufflers and street tires, and are limited to 9-seconds and slower.
The second addition to Sick Michigan Miles Presented by Driven Racing Oil is a motorcycle class. “I might be a little biased, but to do a drag and drive event in a car can be tough,” Tom said. “But doing one on a motorcycle, especially around northern Michigan and all the cool things to see and experience, I’m excited to see who will jump onboard!”
