Bowers Holds On To Overall Lead, As Hayes Makes Gains

Day two of the Carolina Drag Cruise at Ware Shoals Dragway saw the contest for overall honors take some interesting twists and turns, as a challenging track surface and the drive section itself took a toll.

Daniel Bowers (below) remains the overall leader, though a pedalling 6.076 was the best he could muster from his Mustang (Limited Street). His average sits at a 5.777 for the week.

Bowers’ chief rival Kirk Eger (above) was in position to take over the lead following a 5.66 run, but on the drive to hand in his time slip he lost oil pressure and heard a rod knocking.

The news was much better for Graham Hayes (above), driving the family’s nitrous-assisted Nova (Unlimited Street). After replacing the transmission on Friday morning, Hayes initially struggled to get a clean run down Ware Shoals, before clocking a quick 5.579, taking his average to 5.958 and putting a little bit of pressure on Bowers for the overall win.

Stick Shift sees a tight contest at the top with Kenneth Rose (6.761A) taking over the lead from Evan McElrath (6.885A).

Modern Muscle has three drivers battling for the number one position, with Mark White (6.725), Frank Wanicka (6.763) and Roger Olson (6.836) all in contention.

Martin Haralson has built himself a small lead in True Street with his 7.430 average leading Lowell Rust (7.611A).
