Audrea Beeler Thinks ‘WhyNot’ Use the LSA Heart of a ZL1 Camaro in a Classic El Camino

It’s almost commonplace to use a late-model engine in a classic car or truck. But using a LS 6.2-liter supercharged specimen from a 2013 Camaro ZL1 that had less than 100 miles before the extraction? Yeah, that’s different!

Audrea Beeler has a bit of experience with drag-and-drive participants, as her father Tom McGilton’s Camaro provided the engine for Audrea’s ’68 El Camino.

Larry Larson removed the engine when the Camaro underwent construction at Larson Race Cars to become a big block, twin-turbocharged 7-second 200 mph missile.

Audrea’s El Camino went for a slightly milder route, backing the supercharged LS with a Rossler Turbo 400 transmission and a Gear Vendors Overdrive, and Larson Race Cars added a full roll cage for additional safety.

Audrea has already put several thousand miles on the El Camino, attending Rock Mountain Race Week, Race Week and Sick Week in 2022. “Being able to participate in these events with my father,” was Audrea’s response to why she enjoys the drag-and-drive events. She will start her third season of racing with Tom at the 2023 edition of Sick Week.
