A Road Runner Designed for Massive Burnouts – and It’s Coming to Sick Powerfest

From collecting cars to making the jump into burnout competitions, and launching the YouTube channel Busted Radial Garage documenting it all, Chris Mills is working hard to bring his love of cars to as many people as possible.

“My dad was big into racing, and I’ve carried on the tradition with automobiles and having fun with them,” said Chris. “He was a veteran, fought in the wars of Vietnam, and when a lot of soldiers come back to the states, they need a hobby to get their mind right.

Dad worked in the motor pool for the military, and when he came home, he started a garage called Eastside Auto.” It adorns this 1968 Plymouth Road Runner to this day.

After amassing a collection of cars, Chris decided to jump into the burnout arena. “We needed to decide which one of my cars to destroy,” he laughed.

“We went through all the cars most people were using for burnouts, and no one was using a Mopar. I picked the biggest cars we had, a 1968 Plymouth Road Runner we named Linda, and a 1976 Chrysler Cordoba named Homer, for our burnout cars.”

Choosing the Road Runner has brought attention that Chris didn’t expect. “The Road Runner is a car that more people can identify with, both young and old,” said Chris. “We get so many people telling us stories about ones they owned or knew of. I’m hoping that we’re bringing enthusiasts into this new arena of having fun with cars.”

To get the classic Road Runner ready for burnout competitions across the country didn’t require much work. “We removed a lot of the chrome, and swapped the factory bench seat for racing seats and harnesses for increased safety,” said Chris.

The Plymouth is powered by a stock 383 cubic inch Mopar engine, and is backed by a 727 3-speed transmission.

Chris participates in several burnout competitions, including Cleetus and Cars. The Road Runner has also participated in Hot Rod Power Tour and the Holley MoParty in 2022.

His schedule for 2023 includes nineteen events, with Sick Powerfest being his first Sick-style event. “After meeting Derek and Jessica from Vice Grip Garage last year, we knew we needed to do the Sick Powerfest burnout competition,” said Chris.
