This 1967 Chevy Corvair Funny Car - One of Drag Racing’s First Funny Cars – Will Be Part of the Cacklefest at Sick Powerfest!
This 1967 Chevrolet Corvair funny car will be among the cars participating in Cacklefest at Summit Sick Powerfest Presented by M1 Concourse.
Granted, it is a recreation of the legendary Doug Thorley funny car, but the story of how it came to be and the parts used are just as historic as the original.
The owner, Paul Brown, also owns the recreation of Doug Thorley’s “Chevy 2 Much” 1964 Chevy Nova A/FX altered wheelbase car.
After acquiring and showing that car for some time, the subject of recreating Doug Thorley’s funny car came up.
Brown started that project by finding an original Fiberglass Trends fiberglass Corvair body, located in northern Wisconsin hanging from the rafters in a barn.
Brown also discovered an original Logghe chassis, and the two were combined to mark the start of a correct recreation of the iconic funny car, one of the sport’s first fiberglass funny cars.

To get the right paint job, Brown tried to find the original lace style cloth to no avail. So original photos were located and used, which combined with computer and graphic technology, they were able to get everything to the right scale.
This allowed for not only the lettering, but also the unique lace pattern. A blown, 427 cubic inch big block Chevrolet engine on 95-percent nitromethane completes the period-correct appearance.
When the car was completed in early 2017, it was unveiled at an event in Tucson, Arizona, close to where Doug Thorley lived. Doug made the trip to the event and even posed for photos with the car.
The Corvair funny car is one of three cars that tours with David Stewart’s front engine dragster. We featured Stewart’s car in our news section on Monday, July 31st, 2023.
