With Sick Week Drawing Near, Doug Cook Goes Into the Motion Playbook for Plan B: A LS-Swapped Mustang

In addition to the El Toro Coyote-swapped Fox Mustang, Doug Cook planned to debut his re-vamped ’72 Chevrolet Nova at this year’s Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive.

But with a long list to tackle and time drawing short, Doug switched to a back-up plan, and it’s one that takes him back to his roots of Motion Raceworks.

This Mustang coupe was originally built in 2009, and was Doug’s introduction to turbochargers. “I originally bought it as a roller, and I didn’t even know how a turbocharger worked,” said Doug.

His business partners in Motion Raceworks joined Doug to build the car, use it to learn and figure out chassis set-up, turbo technology and power management.

After a few years of running the Mustang, priorities shifted. “I sold it back in 2011 to build a purpose-built race car,” Doug said.

That same buyer contacted Doug recently, and said he was ready to sell the car. Doug didn’t hesitate on the opportunity.

The Mustang still sports the same LS-swap with a single turbocharger as when Doug sold it. “It’s kind of a coming home type of thing for such a special car,” Doug admits.

The car will get some updates before Sick Week, but Doug still plans to keep the overall look and feel of the car. “I love this car, and I’m really looking forward to spending a week with it.”
