Will Florida Foes Brett LaSala and Cleetus McFarland Stage Up Snot Rocket and Mullet in Bristol This Friday?

After pushing his original ‘Snot Rocket’ into the high 6-second range in late 2021, Brett LaSala decided it was time to move to a better ride and up the ante.

Within ten passes of its debut, the ‘Snot Rocket 2.0’ 2012 Ford Mustang delivered a 6.66 at 211 mph, nearly three-tenths of-a-second quicker than he ran with the original ‘Snot Rocket.’

“When we built the car, it was to stay within the street car guidelines, as well as do a drag-and-drive,” said Brett. “I didn’t think the car would run so quick, so fast after we built it. My goal was 6.60s.”

He got that 6.6-second pass at FL2K last year at Gainesville Raceway, but it was opposite a 6.59 at 219 mph from Cleetus McFarland in his ‘Mullet’ El Camino, who claimed the win.

“We are friends through racing,” said Brett. “Before I started at Real Street, I would be at Bradenton Motorsports Park a bunch, so I would constantly see him.”

“When we were racing, it seemed we would be in some of the same classes,” he continued. “When we raced at FL2K, that was only the tenth pass I had made on the new car since we finished it.”

“We were ending up at the same events, like FL2K and World Cup,” stated Brett. After their inital meeting at FL2K, Cleetus and Brett ran in qualifying at World Cup in Maryland, where Cleetus had some issues, so Brett picked up the win, and the score stands 1-1.

Fast forward to this weekend, and the Cleetus’ Danger Ranger at Bristol Motor Speedway will take place on Saturday April 22nd. Street Car Takeover will be hosting a one-day event at the nearby drag strip on Friday April 21st, and that gave Cleetus an idea.

“We’re entering a Ranger in the Saturday race, so Cleetus calls and asks if I’m bringing Snot Rocket to compete in Friday’s Street Car Takeover,” said Brett. Cleetus plans to bring Mullet to Bristol, and both will likely enter either the Street Racer or Small Tire class, so the chance for a third head-to-head contest is possible. “It’s a friendly rivalry, but we’re both competitive people,” Brett admits. “So, we want to win, or be quicker and faster than the other.”

Who would you pick to win the tie-breaker between the two cars?
