The Countdown is on for this Camaro to Debut at Rocky Mountain Race Week

With Rocky Mountain Race Week just over two months away, a lot of preparations are being done for competitors that will start their drag-and-drive season in Kansas.

One of those doing a new build for the event is Steve Pomana Jr. with a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro.

Steve’s ’69 Camaro project had been sitting for a few years, but got back underway in September 2022 with the goal of participating in Rocky Mountain Race Week in 2023.

A father / son project from the beginning, this classic Chevrolet required a lot of bodywork, but all new metal has been pressed into place where needed.

An 8.50-legal roll cage has been added in lieu of the single-digit timeslips that will be collected. To get those e.t.s, a Texas Speed & Performance 408 cubic inch Sledgehammer LS engine will take its place in the engine bay, along with a pair of Borg Warner S366 turbochargers.

Steve will bang gears of a manual transmission behind the powerful LS, and a 9-inch rear end will transfer the power to a pair of Weld Racing wheels and Mickey Thompson rubber.

To make driving the Camaro a little more enjoyable, Steve is fitting the Camaro with Dynamat under the dash, the rear seat area and on the inside of the roof.

Vintage Air will keep Steve and his passenger a little cooler in the summer time, and a trailer is being worked on to be towed behind the Camaro as well.
