This Twin Turbo Dart of Craig Douglas Takes Aim at Sick At The Rock for Its Next Target
We’ve seen plans change for dozens of competitors on drag and drive events, as the primary ride doesn’t get completed or suffers issues that keep it from making an appearance on day one.
For Craig Douglas, his 8-second ZL1 Camaro would see a dyno fire halt his efforts to get it to Sick Week. But Craig got the ‘green light’ to compete in his 1970 Dodge Dart instead, and his next stop is the Sick At The Rock Presented by Motion Raceworks event for the new Street Car Challenge class.
Our Sick At The Rock event is just over a month away, and we’re debuting a new class - the Sick Street Car Challenge class - with $32,000 in payouts up for grabs!! This two-day drag and drive format class is now open to 200 lucky competitors, and you don’t necessarily need to be the quickest overall either. We have 32 different categories to award $1,000 in, and we’ve come up with some good ones to give every competitor a shot at some money. It all takes place at Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina April 10th - 12th, 2025! For more details on Sick At The Rock, and the over $50K in payouts, CLICK HERE!
“If I finish the ZL1 in time, I might bring it,” Craig admitted. “It was a total loss, but I bought it back since I bought it new.” The Chevrolet looks to be a seven-second ride with the changes Douglas made, including a switch in power adder to a pair of turbochargers.
But this Dart, also sporting a twin-turbo powerplant, has served as a solid ride for the drag and drive competitor that will enter his ninth year of competition, but his first two-day event, at Sick At The Rock.
“I have raced all over the USA, but never Rockingham, so I am excited to check it out,” said Craig of the track in North Carolina. “Dan Vanhorn seems to have done a great job with it.”
In regard to the event structure and format, Craig is ready to embrace it. “I hope that it's successful for Tom Bailey,” he said. “I have never done a 2 day drag and drive since I started doing them. The three run eighth-mile is definitely different than I am accustom to, but it should be less carnage that way.
Craig also thinks his small-tire Dart, sporting a 422 cubic inch Hellcat-based engine with HPT turbochargers providing the additional atmosphere, could do well in a few of the 32 advertised awards, with $1000 up for grabs on each. “The class awards are a great idea,” said Craig.
