This Supercharged Mustang Looks to Trade Sick Summer Second-Place for a Class Win at Sick At The Rock
Some cars will come and go, but the ones that make for some of the best stories are the ones that have history with their owners.
Colin Nowak has owned this 1995 Ford Mustang since high school, and after a dozen years cruising and racing it, he’s ready to roll into Rockingham Dragway for next month’s Sick At The Rock Presented by Motion Raceworks, and tackle the Sick Street Car Challenge class.
Our Sick At The Rock Presented by Motion Raceworks event is less than a month away, and we’re debuting a new class - the Sick Street Car Challenge class - with $32,000 in payouts up for grabs!! This two-day drag and drive format class is now open to 200 lucky competitors, and you don’t necessarily need to be the quickest overall. We have 32 different categories with $1000 up for grabs in each, and we’ve come up with some good ones to give every competitor a shot. It all takes place at Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina April 10th - 12th, 2025! For more details on Sick At The Rock, and the over $50K in payouts, CLICK HERE!
If this supercharged Mustang looks familiar, it’s because Colin made a presence at the 2024 edition of Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks, finishing second in the Modified class with a 9.18 average.
“Car did great,” said Colin. “We didn't have to mess with anything other than swapping tires, shock settings and fuel. Was pretty wild to see after day one I was in third.” He eventually moved to second on day three, where he would stay until the event was completed.
“Even though it was miserable hot driving that thing every day, everywhere for five days, I can't wait to do it again,” Colin said. “I'm looking to bring home a Sick orange helmet next time.”
To help the Mustang run the low 9-second passes, Colin made the switch from the original 302-based cubic inch engine and a 5-speed manual transmission to a 427 cubic inch stroker small block Ford engine. Adding the boost is a Vortech YSI-B supercharger, and Holley EFI controls the functions. Colin opted to swap from a manual transmission to an overdrive automatic 4R70W from Freddy Brown.
Although he is already signed up for Sick Summer, as well as Sick Michigan Miles in 2025, Colin added the new Sick At The Rock event to his schedule. “I love the idea of the Sick At The Rock event,” said Colin. “It definitely helps the smaller guys get in and see if it's something they want to dedicate a week or so to do depending on their location.
“Coming from Kewanee, Illinois, it is about 900 miles to the track, so doing this event, it's more for the experience. I'm looking to hopefully bring home some money, if not just have a good time and keep meeting more people.”
