The Second Sick the Mag Drag-And-Drive Shootout of 2024 Fires Up this Weekend at the NMCA All-American Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio

The 2024 drag-and-drive season is past the halfway point, and in addition to several sold out events and several new ones debuting this year, a few racing series have showcased a smaller group of drag-and-drive competitors.

Tom Bailey has worked with the National Muscle Car Association (NMCA) for the last three years to showcase the community at a pair of events during their season, and the second one for 2024 will take place at this week’s Mickey Thompson NMCA All-American Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.

It’s been proven on multiple drag-and-drive events, and even traveled a large stretch of Route 66. Now you can WIN Sick the Magazine’s 9-second Chevy II Gasser! Click HERE for more information and your chance to win!

“It's been great working with NMCA on these drag-and-drive shootouts,” said Tom. “It allows some great competitors a chance to showcase their rides to a different audience.”

Instead of working on their runs at a particular track before packing and driving to the next location, the Shootout allows drivers to dial in their rides over three days at one track.

At last year’s Sick the Mag Drag-and-Drive Shootout, Steve Morris captured the Michigan title with his ‘Boostmaster’ Chevrolet station wagon, while Kyle Bemount picked up the win in Ohio with his turbocharged Pontiac Firebird.

Morris returned to US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan this year to defend his victory, but came up short to David Schroeder in the final round one month ago.

The 8-car invitational class for Ohio feature some of drag-and-drive’s quicker rides, in both big tire and radial tire categories. The big tire cars include Steve Morris and his ‘Boostmaster’ station wagon, and Aydan Bailey with the ‘Deuce Box’ 1957 Chevrolet wagon.

On the small tire side of things, Kyle Morris will bring his turbocharged ‘96 Ford Mustang to the party, and Big 3 Racing will bring a quartet of rides. The quickest of the bunch is Chuck Stefanski’s unique ’81 Pontiac LeMans station wagon, while the Mopar-powered Mustang of Bob Hess, and Rick Trunkett’s ’72 Duster will return to Ohio to participate for a second-straight year.

New to the mix is Kevin Hansinger’s ’99 Chevrolet Camaro, who competed in the 275 Street Race class at this year’s Sick Week event.

The eighth ride is Tom Bailey, who will be making his first competition appearance in the ‘Sick Seconds 2.0’ 1969 Chevrolet Camaro since Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive in 2023.

“After some fixes and upgrades, and some tire testing, I’m ready to make some laps in Norwalk,” said Tom. “It will be fun to mix it up with some solid competitors at the NMCA event, while prepping for next month’s Hot Rod Drag Week.”

The drag-and-drive group will see some street miles before the on-track action takes place, with a pair of qualifying runs scheduled for Friday, and then a third and final qualifying run on Saturday before eliminations take place. Eliminations will be done based on a random chip draw format, with three rounds of competition to determine the overall champion.

The Sick the Magazine merchandise trailer will also be on site, giving you a chance to pick up some cool items while in Norwalk, as well as earn entries into our Chevy II Gasser Giveaway!
