The Perfect Storm – Summit Sick Powerfest Takes Over M1 Concourse
Following a successful Sick Skids at M1 Concourse in 2022, Tom Bailey and crew joined forces with the M1 Concourse staff to create Summit Sick Powerfest Presented by M1 Concourse, held Friday, August 11th 2023.
Expanding on the car show and burnout competition of 2022, this year’s event also included a RC Drag Racing competition, drifting competition, nitro cacklefest and increased support from Summit Racing Equipment, Mickey Thompson Tires and Wheels, LaFontaine Performance Center, and Peak Performance.
With over $20,000 in prize money up for grabs in the various competitions, the action was hotter than the temperatures on Friday.

The day started with testing for RC Drag Racing and drifting, with cool car, trucks and hot rods filling the areas around M1 in the car show.
The drifting competition took four rounds to narrow the field to four competitors - Josh Esty, Chad Anderson, Brock Steel and Neville Ford.
A pair of BMWs lines up in the first match-up of the semifinal round, and it was Anderson getting the better of Esty for the final round berth. A duo of Nissan 240 SX models would battle for the other final round spot, and Ford got the judges nod over Steel.
With a big payout and the coveted Sick the Magazine orange helmet going to the winner, Anderson and Ford battled hard in the final round, but the victor on this day would be Anderson’s BMW, collecting the lion’s share of the $5000 payout.
After mother nature put a halt to activities for a bit with a few showers, the track was dried for a kids Powerwheels exhibition.
Following the completion of the Powerwheels exhibition, Tom Bailey addressed the crowd on the proceeds of the event going to the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan, as well as Bubba’s Buddies (Degenerative Myelopathy). The national anthem rang out, and the much-anticipated burnout contest got under way.
North of 20 competitors lined for their shot at the M1 Concourse skid pad, and some solid showings were put down to grab a coveted top three spot, including the wild run of Kobin Jessup’s all-wheel-drive turbocharged ’98 Audi.
But in the end, Adam Kelley would grab the top prize behind the wheel of the “Burning Money” ’67 F100 supercharged pick-up truck.
Steve Metcalf grabbed the second spot with his Aussie-built ’69 Chevrolet Camaro, and third would be a tie between last year’s champion Patrick Corcoran’s Chevy pick-up and Chris Mills’ twin tire-popping ’68 Road Runner.
