The NMCA Will Host ‘Sick Shootout’ Twice in 2024, With the First of Two Competitions at US 131 Motorsports Park in Michigan in Mid-July

The drag-and-drive season is in full swing as summer grips North America, with five events scheduled to take place in June and three more in July between the United States and Canada.

Sick the Magazine is not only reporting on the events with magazine and web coverage, we’re supporting the community with an increased level of sponsorships and promotions.

Route 66 + drag-and-drive = ultimate event of 2024? Don’t miss Edelbrock Sick 66, October 10th-18th, 2024. Route 66, plus 6 different race tracks and over 50 checkpoints. Don’t miss your chance to join us as part of Sick Ward - CLICK HERE for more information.

July will witness a double dose of Sick the Magazine, as the National Muscle Car Association (NMCA) will host the first of two Sick Shootout classes for the 2024 season, starting with the NMRA / NMCA Power Festival, scheduled for July 18th through the 21st, held at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan.

“Highlighting the drag-and-drive community is the reason Sick the Magazine continues to thrive,” said Tom Bailey. “National racing series like the NMCA and NHRA are recognizing it, and we’re thankful to have the stage to showcase some great competitors!”

The 8-car invitational class will feature some of drag-and-drive’s top competitors, including:

Steve Morris and the revamped ‘Boostmaster’ station wagon

The Schroeder-Ens C7 Corvette with David Schroeder at the controls

‘Fast Eddie’ Ensor’s record-holding naturally-aspirated Ford Mustang

Carl Stancell’s wheelstanding Chevy Blazer

Nick and David Diehl’s turbocharged Mustang

The 1967 Camaro of Don Foess

The group will see some street miles before the on-track action takes place, with a pair of qualifying runs scheduled before eliminations take place.

Eliminations will be done based on a random chip draw format, with three rounds of competition to determine the overall champion.

The Sick Shootout at US 131 Motorsports Park will take place under new signage this year, as the track now sports a new starting line canopy with ‘Sick the Magazine’ displayed.

“We test at US 131 a good bit, and the team does a great job with the track,” said Bailey. “Samuel Peterson has stepped his prep game to the next level, and the records being set at US 131 are proof of that.

We wanted to do our part to support the racing community, so the starting line crew will get some shade each day under the Sick the Magazine colors.”
