The Greatest Doorslammer Run in History: Todd Moyer just went 5.14 to Smash World Record by Two Tenths
Modern drag racing performances have reached the point where gains are measured in thousandths of a second. It is rare to see a record completely bombed, especially in an area as general as drag racing sedans.
But at Bradenton Motorsports Park today, Todd Moyer delivered one of the greatest runs in the history of drag racing with a stunning 5.144 at 273.44mph in his turbocharged Camaro, running in outlaw trim.

The car runs a Carl Stevens-tuned Noonan 4.9 Hemi built by Xtreme Racing Engines. Earlier in the week the car recorded the third quickest eighth-mile doorslammer pass in history with a 3.492, putting the team within sight of Frankie Taylor’s 3.485.
But little did we know the team’s real goal was the quarter-mile record, held by Jose Gonzalez in Mark Micke’s Camaro with a 5.359 pass made in November.
Moyer returned on Wednesday, January 24 and staged up at 1.45pm. The Camaro launched with a 0.924 60-foot time, reached 330 feet in 2.391 seconds, 660 feet in a world record 3.457/233.92mph, 1000 feet in 4.361 seconds and finally the quarter-mile mark at 5.144 at ‘only’ 273mph. Yes, that’s right - this was an early shut-off run.
For comparison, Gonzalez went 219.19 to the half and 272.94mph out the back, gaining 53.75mph in the top. If Moyer had been under power through the traps, it is extremely likely he would have been somewhere around 285-286mph. While the speed difference sounds impressive, it would likely only have made a small difference to the ET, perhaps a 5.13-something.
Just so we can calibrate, Moyer’s run was quicker than any Top Alcohol Funny Car on the planet and unreasonably close to Megan Meyer’s 5.090 Top Alcohol Dragster record.
The fact is, records aren’t supposed to fall this much - especially in the modern era. Take a bow, Todd Moyer and team. That was one of the greatest passes in drag racing history.
