The Averages and Quickest Runs from Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks – Hitting the Midpoint of the 2024 Drag-and-Drive Season
It’s crazy to think it was over four months ago, the 2024 drag-and-drive season kicked off with Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive.
With the first event of the season, we get the starting point for the top 100 averages list of the year, as well as the top 100 single passes.

Sick Summer moved a week later in the 2024 season than the inaugural event in 2023, and we also moved from a 250 participant cap to 350 competitors. We started with 225 of the 250 participant cap in 2023, and of those 225 rides, 199 crossed the stripe on the final day (an amazingly low 11.5-percent attrition rate).
In 2024, we had 317 vehicles show up and survive tech inspection, and 260 survived the five days to turn in a time slip on all five day and complete the week at Byron Dragway (18.2-percent attrition rate, still lower than the normal rate we see at some drag-and-drive events).
Some groups saw a big swing in participation, including Stick Shift with 28 participants, the second-biggest turnout for the class at a Sick event (the 2022 edition of Sick Week had the most at 32 gear jammers).
Event Finishers – Quarter-Mile Averages
The two lists that determine early entry for the 2025 edition for Sick Summer are the Top 100 Averages, and the Top Individual Runs. It’s interesting to see how these change from year to year, and event to event.
At the first drag-and-drive event of the year, Sick Week, the top average spot was secured by Brett LaSala with a 6.34 average, one of four averages in the 6-second range. The 100th and final spot was locked up by Richie Webb thanks to a 10.209 average.
For Sick Summer, the top average belonged to Bryant Goldstone with a 6.60 average with his 1973 AMC Javelin, and he was the only participant to clock a 6-second time at each and every track. The number 100 spot belonged to Mike Cole’s ’96 Dodge Avenger with a 10.90 average.

Event Finishers – Eighth-Mile Averages (Rowdy Radial Class)
Run on the eighth-mile standard, the Rowdy Radial class got a big surge in participation for Sick Summer over one year ago. The class count increased from four rides in 2023 to eleven in 2024, and last year’s 5.258 winning average would’ve only gotten the third spot in 2024.
Two of the eleven cars entered didn’t finish the week this year, and using a standard conversion factor from eighth-mile to quarter-mile, the top five finishers would be in the 8-second range or quicker for quarter-mile times, easily sliding into the Top 100 averages. However, we are listing them separately here.

The Top Individual Run – Quarter-Mile
The second list used to determine early entry for the 2025 edition for Sick Summer is the Top 100 Individual Run list. Unlike the average list where the numbers come from participants that complete the event, the Top Individual Run list comes from both finishers and those on the Did Not Finish (DNF) list, with the quickest run from each racer used.
To crack the top 100 historically, a low 9-second time slip has been required from Sick Week, with the top 100 anchored by a 9.300 from Frank Romano at the 2022 edition of Sick Week, a 9.222 from Rob Courtney at Sick Week 2023, and the number 100 spot was claimed by Nicholas Desimine with a 9.262 pass at Sick Week 2024. Sick Summer is a little slower, with the 100th spot held by Rick Callahan with a 10.261 best pass.
