‘Silverback’ Camaro Looking For the Gold and Mid 8-Second Times
With drag-and-drive events becoming more popular and over 20 events scheduled for 2023, it’s becoming more common to see certain participants at more than one event.
Aaron Shaffer first hit the drag-and-drive scene in 2018, debuting his 1998 Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport at Hot Rod Drag Week. Running the popular Street Race Small Block Power Adder class, Aaron posted a 9.63 average to finish twevelth out of nearly 50 entries in the class.
By 2020, Aaron had mastered the 8.50-limit of the Limited Street class at Rocky Mountain Race Week 2.0, averaging an 8.51 to take his first drag-and-drive class victory.
The 2021 season was a tough one for Aaron, as Rocky Mountain Race Week found him sidelined before the final stop with engine failure. The luck hadn’t turned by Rocky Mountain Race Week 2.0 for Aaron, as this time electrical issues kept the Camaro from finishing.
Sick Week 2023 Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive will feature hundreds of America’s fastest street cars, racing and cruising through Florida and southern Georgia.
Sick Ward tickets / Individual day spectator tickets are available here.
2022 found Aaron ready to roll in time for Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive, entering the Street Race class. The Camaro’s single turbo 427 cubic inch LS combination delivered an 8.507 on day one to grab the class lead, but by the end of the week, an 8.54 average for Aaron would finish second to Alex Corella. Aaron rebounded at Rocky Mountain Race Week 2.0 later in the year, picking up his second Limited Street class win.
Aaron will make the trek from Texas once again to start his 2023 season at Sick Week in the Street Race class, a class with one of the largest fields in the event.
“I love the time away with great friends and likeminded people,” Aaron said of his drag-and-drive experiences, as he hopes to earn his first Sick Week class win in 2023.
