Phil Tobin’s Corvette Leads Day One of Southeast Street-N-Yeet

After a successful first edition in 2022, Southeast Street-N-Yeet Presented by Motion Raceworks kicked off competition on Monday with fresh faces, returning champions, and some carnage thrown in for good measure.

After day one at Shadyside Dragway was cut short due to weather, Phil Tobin stands atop the leaderboard as the quickest car with a 5.30 pass. But that run came with a nitrous backfire that bent the throttle body blade, requiring a trailer jack to try and straighten them out.

Last year’s Yeet Stick winner Taylor Hedrick is back with his turbocharged Mustang, although it’s fighting him a bit. “We should rename this car ‘Drama Momma’ because she always giving us some drama,” Taylor quipped.

Despite a power wheelie, tire shake and less boost than normal, Taylor uncorked a 5.38 pass to keep his stick shift steed in contention.

A couple of the new rides at this year’s Southeast Street-N-Yeet include the Holden Ute of Lee Locklear.

The Australian model has been converted to left-hand drive, and Lee got the car running last week. But unfortunately, the 9-inch center section broke a half shaft, and at press time they are searching for a fix to continue on.

Another new car to the event is Jennifer Rudasill’s 1979 Pontiac Formula Firebird. Sporting LS-power and a 4L80E transmission, the Southeast Street-N-Yeet marks Jennifer’s first drag-and-drive event.

After watching the event from the sidelines in 2022, Jennifer and her husband Keith ‘Rudy’ Rudasll got the car together in time to jump into the Dial Your Own Yeet class this year.

The Southeast Street-N-Yeet continues today at South Carolina Motorplex in Neeses, South Carolina.
