Off-Road Meets Drag-and-Drive in an 8-Second Crown Victoria

Employed by thousands of police and government agencies, the Ford Crown Victoria was a vehicle you never wanted to see in your rear-view mirror on the street.

They’ve since been replaced in the rotation of fleet vehicles, after being discontinued by Ford following the 2012 model year.

And although you may still see some from time to time, sporting the traditional driver’s side spotlight and ‘Police Interceptor” badging, it’s nothing like this one.

This 2011 example, the final year for a Police Interceptor model, belongs to Jon Moore, the owner of Moorespeed Performance in Columbus, Ohio. With his chosen profession and a blank canvas, was there any doubt it would be built into something epic?

“The Crown Victoria started life as a correctional facility transport in Piedmont, Virginia,” said Jon. “I purchased the car through a GovDeals auction on December 28th, 2022.”

He then managed to turn it around in just two months’ time for his drag-and-drive debut at Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive in 2023.

To get the 4200-pound sled moving a little quicker, Jon yanked the Ford driveline and replaced it with a 6-liter LS engine and Turbo 400 3-speed transmission. A custom turbo kit was added for a little more power, and the combination of the car and Jon survived Sick Week with a 10.14 average.

After spending the remainder of 2023 pushing the car and its combination to the limits at multiple events, Jon made the 900-plus mile trip back to Florida for his second Sick Week appearance. But this time, an improved LS powerplant and turbo kit would be in place, and Jon was looking for single digit time slips.

It didn’t take long, as he blew his previous best 9.17 at 148 mph out of the water on Sunday’s test day, clocking an 8.79 at 155 mph on just his second run.

That set the stage for the week, as Jon produced an 8.76 average that would not only lower his previous Sick Week average by nearly 1.4-seconds, but also claimed second place in the new Heavy Metal class.
