Jeff Lutz Will Bring ‘Mad Max’ ’69 Camaro to Sick At The Rock to Take on the Sick Street Car Challenge class!

After being away from the drag and drive game for a little over seven years, Jeff Lutz made his return to the game at the 2024 edition of Sick Week.

That appearance ended one day short of a complete event, but it sparked Jeff’s interest in the drag and drive game once again, and Jeff will bring the iconic ’69 Camaro known as ‘Mad Max’ to the Motion Raceworks Sick At The Rock event at Rockingham Dragway to participate in the new Sick Street Car Challenge class!

Sick At The Rock Presented by Motion Raceworks event is THIS WEEK - April 10th - 12th, 2025 at Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina! “It has been a long time (since we’ve been on a drag-and-drive),” said Jeff when he first discussed coming to Sick Week in 2024. “We’re excited to do it.” Despite his busy schedule keeping him away from not only Hot Rod Drag Week, but any drag-and-drive event, Jeff never lost hope. “I’ve told Tom Bailey that I wanted to come do Sick Week for a while.”

Jeff made plans to be at Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive in 2024, and the attention paid to not only shown to the ‘Mad Max’ ’69 Camaro, but also Brett LaSala’s Mustang, as the two battled for the overall lowest average of the week. After four days of racing, Jeff ‘s average was 6.423, and while Brett had a 6.359 average, Jeff has low e.t. of the week at 6.15 from day one.

But day four marked the end of Sick Week 2024 for Jeff, as engine troubles sidelined him and the Camaro. Jeff had it fixed less than a month later, as the Camaro made an appearance at FuelTech, where it delivered a solid 3022 horsepower on the hub chassis dyno.

This year, Jeff thought he was ready for Sick Week 2025. “We made a 5.91 test pass before we made it to Georgia for Sick Week,” said Jeff. “I thought we were good, then all hell broke loose.” A connecting rod exited the chat during a test day at South Georgia Motorsports Park, sidelining Jeff before Day Zero had dawned.

Jeff got everything fixed in short order, and the Camaro was ready for the call to action, which will be this week when Jeff and son Jeffery make a trip to Rockingham, North Carolina for Sick At The Rock Presented by Motion Raceworks.

“My son got a hold of me about the event, and said ‘we need to go do this event,’” said Jeff. “I asked him what he was taking, and he said, ‘I’m riding with you.’” It will mark the first time in a while Jeff and Jeffery will ride in the same car during a drag and drive event. “I can’t tell you how long it’s been since he rode co-pilot with me,” Jeff said. “When he suggested it, I said hell yeah let’s do this.”

Jeff made some of the last few checks on the Camaro last week and think he’s ready for Sick At The Rock. “I didn’t street drive it yet, so I made a street drive on pump gas,” he said. “Then we switched it back to methanol, spooled it up, and all sounded good. I think we have the issues behind us, and I’m ready to get out there and have fun.”
