NHRA Factory X Class Continues to Make Strides – 7.15 at 195 MPH Testing Pass Puts Mopar as Unofficial Quickest Car, Second Mustang in the Class Rolls Out of Larry Jeffers Race Cars Shop

The new National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Factory X class Presented by Holley held its first official race just over a week ago at the Dodge Power Brokers US Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway Park in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge were all represented on site as a four-car field made up of two Camaros, one Mustang and one Challenger would take to the track to crown the first ever class winner.

Although Geoff Turk’s ‘Blackbird X’ Challenger was the first car completed in April, Greg Stanfield’s Camaro would be the one that had the most test laps coming into Indy, and Stanfield clocked a 7.23 at 190 mph to lead qualifying.

Stanfield continued to stay the quickest and fastest car on the property, as an opening 7.24 at 191 mph was back up with a 7.25 at 191 mph in the final round to dispatch Chris Holbrook’s Ford Mustang.

The class has continued to create a lot of interest since the first car was displayed at the PRI Show last December, and several cars are being built at shops across the country.

The latest car to roll out is Stephen Bell’s Ford Mustang, coming from the Larry Jeffers Race Cars shop in Missouri. The second Mustang to publicly debut will sport 327 cubic inches under the hood boosted by a Whipple supercharger, built by the same man that does his Factory Stock Showdown engines, Greg Stanfield, and backed by a Liberty 5-speed manual transmission.

In testing notes, the first Factory X car completed, Geoff Turk’s Blackbird X Challenger, continues to make strides after being completely rebuilt following a testing crash in April.

With former NHRA Pro Stock national champion Allen Johnson now behind the wheel, the team took part in a private test session at Beech Bend Raceway in Kentucky.

Johnson produced a 7.221 at 184.95 mile per hour pass, then backed it up with a 7.153 at 195.25 mph, the quickest and fastest pass for a Factory X vehicle at press time.
