Mitchell and Smith a Powerful Pair in Midwest Drags Win

Garrett Mitchell has taken his first overall drag-and-drive win with a commanding performance at Summit Midwest Drags 2022.

After a sketchy first day, the Steve Morris-powered El Camino known as Mullet proved its worth, descending into the low sevens and briefly into the sixes for a final average of 7.300 — the quickest average ever at Midwest Drags.

Final day runs of 7.063 and 7.414 were enough to bring the victory home, as the Floridian and his co-pilot Kevin Smith proved they were a force to be reckoned with at drag-and-drive events.

The fourth day of Midwest Drags saw an early start, with racing being brought forward ahead of expected rain. The track prep at Edgewater Sports Park was on point, with plenty of glue going down and a thankful absence of rain in the lead-up.

Ryan Hargett had nothing to be ashamed of with his second place, thanks to a 7.577 average. Bradley Arnold moved up to third overall, with his average of 7.737 slipping past Glenn Hunter’s 7.829.

There were thankfully few incidents during the day, but there was one very strange one. Mike Chenoweth’s ’70 Roadrunner hit a deer in the braking area, denting up the front end of the beautiful twin turbo Hemi-powered coupe. Mike was okay; the deer was not.

With nineteen classes up for grabs, there were many trophies to be given away at the end of the day and many stories. We will have much to read in our full coverage in Sick The Mag. Thanks everyone!
