Miles of Mayhem Is Complete – Here’s the Results of Canada’s Second Drag-and-Drive of the Season

After a week of recovery from a handful of drag-and-drive events across multiple states and countries, the drag-and-drive community returned to center stage this week.

Miles of Mayhem, contested from July 23rd through the 28th, concluded its five days of driving and racing on the eighth-mile standard, and crowned champions in eight classes.

In the Outlaw class, Pat Myker was the star of the field. Guiding his supercharged 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle to multiple 4-second timeslips during the week, Myker not only snagged the class win with a 4.84 average, but also earned the record for Miles of Mayhem quickest pass ever, a 4.63 on day four at Central Alberta Raceways.

Ron Thiessen finished in the second spot, and Mark Ingold rounded out the top three.

The Small Tire class had Dan Jackson in control from day one, as the only driver to clock a 4-second pass on the small tires. He clocked a trio of 5-second runs on days two, three and four, but never relinquished the lead. Jackson put the cherry on top on day five, returning to the fours with a 4.95 on the final day for a 5.16 average for the victory.

A consistent Kyle Williams put together a 5.37 average to finish second, and a 5.80 average was enough to lock up third for John Schmitd.

The Pro Street class was a tough battle that saw the lead change hands amongst three competitors. Recent feature Kyle Omilanow got the lead after day one, but his second day took an unexpected turn after the engine grenaded after a 6.37 pass.

That dropped him from the lead, and James Dick picked up the top spot with his second-straight 5.91 pass. He would hang on to the lead, but Layne Ollenburg would close the gap on days three and four.

Day five found Ollenberg’s 5.819 final pass netting him a 5.89 average, just passing the 5.902 average of Dick for the top spot, regulating Dick to the second slot. After the engine swap on day two, Omilanow recovered to post a 6.12 average for the third spot.

For those that row the gears, the Manpedal class features the stick-shift entries, and had one of the bigger turnouts. Among the favorites were Richard Guido and Bill Armstrong, and Guido posted a 5.88 pass to grab the early lead in his Pontiac GTO.

Armstrong’s Fairlane would take the lead on day two after Guido slowed to a 6.44. Armstrong would continue to outpace Guido for the remainder of the event, clocking a trio of 5.9-second time slips to arrive at a 6.005 average for the class victory.

Guido’s 6.35 average would prove second-best on the week, and Tim Adrian compiled a 6.84 average for the number three position.

Modern Muscle would crown a new winner in 2023, and Kelly Prosser threw down a 6.42 to take the early lead. Prosser would be challenged throughout the week by both Darryn O’Connor and Jason Van Beeten, but Prosser would hang on the lead the entire week, ending with a 6.449 average for the class title.

O’Connor used a 6.491 average for the runner-up position, with Van Beeten close behind at a 6.515 average for third.

The Truck and SUV class was a wire-to-wire win for Trey Walker, who scored the top spot courtesy of a 6.26 average. Dan Bold pulled down number two with a 6.63 average, and Leon locked down third with a 7.34 average.

The bracket race showcases how close you can get to a single time throughout the week, and this would prove to be the closest class in margin. Less than two hundredths of-a-second separated the top three, with Norm Johnston earning the win by being just .0488-second an average off his base throughout the week. This marks Norm’s third win in a row at Miles of Mayhem in his 1967 Chevrolet Nova.

Close behind in second was Kyle Robb, who averaged just .0512-secoinds off the mark, while Riley Hills posted a .0644-second average off their time for third place.     

The 7.5-second class also challenges competitors on how close you can get to the 7.5-second index throughout the week, and Geena took the title here with an .069-second average for the top spot.

Raymond Dueck’s .13-second average off the 7.5-second standard netted him the second spot, and Tom Taylor rounded out the top three with a .14-second average.
