Michael Westberg Posts Quickest ET of Day One at Street Week Sweden with New Ride

The last several years of drag-and-drive competition have seen not only participants from the United States and Canada competing in several events, but also numerous rides from overseas.

From Stefan Gustafsson to Mikael Borggren and John Faraone, drag-and-drive classes and overall titles are being claimed by those making the ultimate trips to compete.

One of the ones recently to make a splash in drag-and-drive is Michael Westberg. Over a period of about six months, Westberg put together a pair of successful events where he battled for not only class wins, but overall event titles.

Wheeling a 1991 Chevrolet S-10 with a potent twin-turbocharged combination from ACE Racing Engine, Westberg averaged a 6.58 at the 2022 edition of Hot Rod Drag Week, claiming second-quickest overall and second-place in the Unlimited class.

He followed that with a 6.46 average at the second annual Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive this year, earning the Unlimited class victory and quickest overall for the week.

It was a bittersweet victory for Westberg, as the 1991 S-10 was already sold before Sick Week began, and just three days after the conclusion of the event, it went down the road as a rolling chassis to its new owner.

But Westberg already had plans for the potent driveline, a 400 cubic inch LS engine wearing twin Precision turbos and backed with a M & M Transmission turbo 400 automatic, as a new ’67 Camaro chassis would get it for a debut in Sweden this year.

Now, that car has hit the track during the current Street Week Sweden, and with only five test laps before competition started, Westberg laid down a 4.34 at 158 mph for the overall event lead, as well as a new event record.

Granted, it’s a little slower than the 4.16 at 177 mph best that Westberg clocked during Sick Week, but Westberg has stated there’s more left in the new ride.
