This Diesel Truck Throws Down Big Numbers on the Dyno

The questions that always seem to come up in most conversations about cars / trucks is either ‘how much power does it make’ or ‘how quick does it run?’

Sometimes dyno numbers won’t match the track times, and in other instances the time slips make you do a double take.

In the case of Jessie Harris and his 6.7-liter Cummins diesel-powered 1975 Chevrolet 1/2-ton pick-up, we’ve seen the drag-and-drive proven ride lay down some solid runs for a 2-ton pick-up. But what does it make for power?

Jessie decided to find out what the pick-up that’s been in his family since new could ring up for numbers, so he strapped the familiar orange and white pick-up to the chassis dyno rollers to see what the truck really put down.

From the initial pull, the rear wheel and tire combination was affecting the readouts, as the truck developed a good bit of shake. But they managed to get a decent pull out of it after a few adjustments, and the graph came back with 1016 rear-wheel-horse-power and 1300 lb/feet of torque!

After a couple more pulls, Jessie managed to eclipsed the first horsepower number with 1049 ponies at the rear wheels.

Considering the truck has made numerous low 9-second runs, including a 9.20 at 138 mph on the 2022 edition of Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive in route to a second-place finish in the Sick Week Freaks class, these power numbers seem to be in the range we’d expect to see for the on-track performance. That Cummings definitely makes some steam!

So, now with the performance data from the chassis dyno, what can we expect from Jessie at his next drag-and-drive appearance? “We’re ready to make it faster or make it stop running,” he said. Check out the video below:
