David and Nick Diehl Invade the 6-Second Zone in Testing – Will Sick Week’s Super Street Class Be the First Time For a 6-Second Average?

Just one day after Doug Cook dropped the news that he owned a 6-second time slip, we heard the news that another Super Street class competitor had joined the 6-second club.

David and Nick Diehl have been working towards getting the 2000 Ford Mustang into not only the 6-second zone, but also wanting to be the first in the sixes in the Super Street class at a drag-and-drive event. This week, they accomplished one of their goals.

After struggling one day one at Hot Rod Drag Week last month, the Diehls rebounded with four days of 7-second passes, including a new record on a single pass of 7.08 at 195 mph.

But they still wanted more, and the brothers plan to make another attempt at a new class average record in 2025. To tune up for that, they recently made a trip to US 131 Motorsports Park in Michigan for one of the last private rentals of the year.

Thanks to help from Steve Morris Engines, Bullseye Power Turbochargers, and a host of other supporters, the LS-swapped single turbo ride made a solid shot at the end of the night, clocking a 6.85 at just 170 mph lifting early.

The short track numbers are 1.077-seconds to the 60 foot, 2.8829 to the 330 foot mark, and 4.36 at 165.87 mph to the eighth-mile.

Since that test day, the Diehls have prepped the car for a local ‘anything on 28s’ event today, where the Mustang cranked out a 4.33 at 170 mph with a slightly slower 1.09 60 foot time.

“We’ve got ourselves a hot rod,” said Nick. “We’ve worked through a lot this year, but we’re coming for that 6-second drag-and-drive average next year!”
