The New Snot Rocket 3.0 Mustang Chassis is Complete – Can Brett LaSala Make an FL2K Debut in Less Than a Month?

It was less than a month ago that Brett LaSala put ‘Snot Rocket 2.0’, his low 6-second street-legal 2012 Mustang, up for sale (you can read that story HERE). The rolling chassis was sold in ten minutes, as Brett already had plans for a new car, ‘Snot Rocket 3.0’ underway at Moore Race Chassis.

We thought the new car would be ready in time for the 2025 edition of Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive, but Brett and Moore Race Chassis decided to up the ante.

In a video dropped on the Motion Raceworks YouTube page this morning, Brett and Doug Cook revealed that the new Snot Rocket 3.0 is ahead of schedule. Could it possibly make a debut at the upcoming FL2K event at Bradenton Motorsports Park, October 3-6, 2024 to defend their Extreme 28s class title from a year ago?

“I’m always looking a year ahead,” said Brett. “We’ve always tried to stay in front of everyone. And to do that, you have to not look at who you’re racing right now, but who you’re going to be racing in a new car coming out.”

This way of thinking was applied to the original Snot Rocket Mustang, and as soon as Brett ran a 6.99 with that Mustang a couple years ago, he was already thinking about the future.

“It was great, and that day I was like ‘yep, let’s build a new car,’” Brett said. With the original Snot Rocket in the hands of Zach Meyers, Brett purchased the rolling chassis of a 2012 Mustang from Joel Steele, and converted it to Snot Rocket 2.0.

With a nearly unblemished track record, as well as holding multiple records in both the Coyote and drag-and-drive community, many were shocked to see Snot Rocket 2.0 up for sale last month, but Brett had his reasons.

“This one can go faster,” Brett said in reference to the 2.0 car’s potential. “But we see the end of the road.” The car as purchased from Joel was designed to run mid 6-second passes, and to do the updates needed to run quicker and stay legal for the projected goals, “it would be cutting apart a good car.”

We got the news that Snot Rocket 3.0 would be built at Moore Race Chassis, and although we assumed that it would take a little while for Matt Moore and crew to complete a 25.1-SFI spec rolling chassis for Brett, Motion’s video revealed that Moore Race Chassis actually received the Mustang body during the week of Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks on June 12th.

That 2011 Mustang was sliced and diced into a rolling chassis that would be sitting at the TBM Brakes facility on August 16th, just two days before Brett put Snot Rocket 2.0 up for sale. Sporting a red SFI 25.1 chassis sticker, by definition the car is legal to run 7.49-seconds and quicker in the quarter-mile at a maximum of 2800 pounds.

For reference, Snot Rocket 2.0 weighed in at 2970 pounds, and although we don’t have a finished weight of the new car yet, it stands to reason the weight loss mandated by the chassis certification should make the car 5-6 hundredths quicker.

“There’s still a ton of work to do,” said Brett. “I think we can do it if we keep on track like we are now.” The drivetrain and electronics from Snot Rocket 2.0 are making the move to the new car, and Brett has all intentions of putting this car in the 5-second range, while retaining the ability to still do drag-and-drive events.

The new car will get it’s signature green hue (although Brett and Doug joked that a color change was considered). And the rumor mill is that ALL THREE Snot Rockets could be at Sick Week 2025, including Snot Rocket 2.0 with a LS-based powerplant that would compete in the same class as Brett’s new car!
