Beater Bomb and Joey Hiykel Crush the 26 x 8.5-Inch Wide Tire Record – 4.38 at 180 MPH!!

Well known in the small tire and no-prep circles, the ‘Beater Bomb ‘1990 Ford Mustang has been winning on practically every surface for over a decade.

Even though it got plenty of street car miles in the beginning, Joey Hiykel’s Mustang has become a dedicated eighth-mile rocket, and although he usually keeps things under wraps on engine combination and performances, he recently dropped a new record and revealed times.

The ’Beater Bomb’ got its start as a nitrous ride, but soon progressed to a turbocharged set-up, and although Joey used to travel a lot more, he has since stayed more local to better balance racing, work and family life. But the Mustang recently went record hunting at the new Flying H Drag Strip during their Hooktober event.

The widely accepted record for a 26-inch tall x 8.56-inch wide slick was a 4.63, and drag-and-drive enthusiasts may remember that Jordan Tuck clocked a 4.59 on a 235 radial in Devin Vanderhoof’s Mustang during Sick Week.

Joey rolled into the Odessa, Missouri on Friday October 25th, coming into the event with zero experience on the tiny tire. But the tuner managed to smash the record before dinner time on Friday to a 4.46 at 175 MPH, coasting to a 7.27 at 137 MPH in the quarter-mile!

But Joey wasn’t done yet, and Saturday October 26th would have the Mustang rolling to an even quicker and faster time slip. Rolling to the starting line as nighttime was starting to grip the facility on Saturday, Joey and Beater Bomb took advantage of the Sticky Mafia prep to roll to an insane 4.383 at 180.30 MPH with a 1.206 60 foot!

How much quicker can racers get on a tiny tire?
