All the Details About the Car
You may have seen the ’57 Chevy Gasser wagon in our coverage of Sick Summer (print and online), or on the Tom Bailey YouTube Channel. The car was piloted by our own EJ along with “Mr. Sam” as co-pilot, and EJ worked her way to a 12.28 pass on the final day after making adjustments at each stop, and completing the event by driving over 600 miles and laying down at least one pass per track without issue.
Since that time, the motor was pulled for some freshening, and removing an unknown camshaft grind for a new one from Isky that added nearly 150 more horsepower to the mix!
This car is a true-to-form gasser, ready to do another drag-and-drive event, or racing at your local drag strip / rolling it to a nearby car show. The 350 small block engine now sports 589 horsepower fresh from Steve Morris Engines’ dyno, and is backed by a Rossler-freshened automatic transmission and a Gear Vendors Overdrive unit to keep the rpms down on the road.
The cooling system got an upgrade for Sick Summer thanks to Be Cool, with an improved radiator to keep the temperatures in check. Ididit provided a new steering column so the street-legal lights and turn signals would work, and Racequip stepped up the safety with new upgraded belts (the car does have a roll bar to keep you safe and be legal to 10.00 elapsed times). Mickey Thompson provided new rubber for the voyage down track and street on Sick Summer, and we think there’s some VP Racing Fuel sloshing around in the tank to get you started!
