US 60 Dragway in Kentucky Gets New Concrete Surface for 2024 Racing Season

To celebrate their 60th season in operation, US 60 Dragway in Hardinsburg, Kentucky will undergo some upgrades for the 2024 season, including an all-new surface for the drag strip, a new track manager, and a sizable event to kick off the racing season.

US 60 Dragway, which first swung its gates open in July of 1964, is rich in history of drag racing. Everything from Top Fuel and Funny Car to test and tune and heads-up racing has taken place at the facility.

The final day for that original surface was November 23rd of 2023, and then the track’s surface would be torn apart for an all-new concrete surface.

Slated to happen this spring, the track will now enjoy a full eighth-mile concrete surface, as well as replacing the mix of concrete walls and guard rails to a complete concrete wall as well for safety.

To give the new surface a proper break-in could take a week or two of dragging and prepping, but instead US 60 Dragway will host a no-prep in early May for a $20,000 pot.

The no-prep will return to the facility several more times in 2024, both on the front side and on the ‘back side’ (shutdown side).

The second change for the track is naming established sportsman drag racer Tyler Bohannon the track manager.

“US 60 is the place I made my first runs down a drag strip,” said Tyler. “With the family friendship that goes back decades, and the fact he is a racer, it was not hard for me to decide working with Chris, was what I needed. We both have the same passion for the facility and he shares the “for the racer” attitude. He also has already shown that changes are happening.”

The track will re-open on May 4th; for more information, please visit the track’s website www.us60dragracing.com.
