Track Goes From Concept To Completion In A Few Months, as Concho Valley Dragway in San Angelo, Texas Set For Grand Opening July 6th

Motivated to bring a growing segment of street racing to the track, as well as construct a facility to host a variety of events, Concho Valley Dragway has come to life in just a few short months.

Although project of this size can face resistant and setbacks, the track’s opening is in line with dates initially projected before the first piece of equipment started work.

We first reported on the track’s concept in April in a story here in Sick the Magazine, and just 34 days after ground-breaking, the track surface had been poured in concrete, and the return road, pit area and staging lanes has also been completed in asphalt.

“Crazy how much progress has been made on the track in a little over a month,” said Jared Winger, who joined forces with Terance Harrison, Mark Winger and Justin Harvey to bring the track from a concept to reality.

Originally slated to be a mix of concrete and asphalt, the racing surface instead got the full distance in concrete, and the eighth-mile track got its first use ahead of schedule.

A gathering of street racers instead tested out the bare concrete in late May, and the results proved the surface was ready for the next step: a soft opening this week on June 27th. Electrical and an Accutime timing system are wrapping up, along with fencing, lighting, and even concessions.

The track’s grand opening is slated for July 5th and 6th, when the Acclimation No-Prep event will be held with Limpy on the flashlight to start things. The track also has a schedule in place for the rest of the year, including several ‘fun and grudge’ days, motorcycle and diesel gambler races, a hard tire shootout and a heads-up event in late November.
