Tony Angelo Recaps Sick Week Experience with ‘Street Freak’ Firebird Build

A co-pilot on two Hot Rod Drag Week events, pro drifter and former Hot Rod Garage show host Tony Angelo embarked on his first drag-and-drive event as a driver on this year’s Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive.

After purchasing a 1974 Pontiac Firebird Tony calls the ‘Street Freak’ on Facebook marketplace in 2019 as a roller, Tony got the street and strip capable project rolling in early 2022.

The custom paint job was polished back to life, and Tony stuffed a Butler Performance 462 cubic inch Pontiac engine wearing a Speedmaster 6-71 blower under the hood, backed by a 4-speed manual transmission.

Tony entered the Stick Shift class at Sick Week, and rolled the Pontiac into competition armed with only dyno time and some street shakedown miles. “I actually don’t have a ton of drag racing experience, and very little with a stick car,” said Tony. “So it’s a little daunting, but I’m really excited.”

How did Tony fare?
