Tom Bailey’s Durango To Make Dragstrip Debut at Summit Motorsports Park as NMCA Hosts Second Sick Shootout of 2023 in Norwalk, Ohio This Weekend

Despite being past the mid-point of 2023, the number of drag-and-drive events is still in the double digits, including Hot Rod Drag Week, Rocky Mountain Race Week 2.0, Sick’s Death Week and the fall Southeast Street-N-Yeet to name a few!

Following an eventful first Sick Shootout at the National Muscle Car Association (NMCA) Power Festival in July, the NMCA brings the Sick Shootout, presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive and PEAK Performance, to the Mickey Thompson All-American Nationals held this weekend at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.

Open to cars and trucks that have completed a drag-and-drive, the 8-vehicle field will also feature a pair of new rides to make exhibition runs as a tune up for their first drag-and-drive of 2023 – Hot Rod Drag Week.

One of the cars in the field will be Tom Bailey’s 2021 Dodge Durango, a new build just completed two weeks ago. Sporting a Gen 3 Hemi from Hemi Tuners and Billy Briggs wearing a 3.8-liter Whipple supercharger, the Durango fired for the first time just one day before its debut at Roadkill Nights.

After two hits on Woodward Avenue, Tom and Bob Miller got some ideas, and worked on the rear suspension for this weekend’s action.

Joining Tom for the second Sick Shootout of 2023 will be:

Alan Whitaker and his freshly built 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

The 2000 Pontiac Firebird of Kyle Bemount.

Don Foess’ twin-turbocharged 1967 Chevrolet Camaro.

The 1996 Ford Mustang of Cole Rymarz.

A Gen-3 Hemi-powered 1982 Mustang of Bob Hess.

Rick Turnkett’s 1972 Plymouth Duster.

Chuck Stefanski’s 1998 Pontiac Trans Am.

The action on the track for these competitors features four rounds of competition, starting with two rounds on Friday.

Eliminations are done in a shootout-style format, with a random chip draw used to determine the pairings.

After four rounds of competition, the two drivers with the most round wins will contest a final pair on Sunday to determine the overall champion.

The other six competitors can also participate in grudge-style ‘call-out’ match-ups on Sunday.
