This Nitrous-Fed 4-Door Malibu Brings Three Generations Together to Participate in A Pair of Drag-and-Drive Events in 2024

There are quite a few father and son (or father daughter, or mother and daughter) stories in the world of cars and motorsports.

However, this 1980 Chevrolet Malibu represents three generations of the Hollis family, and 2024 will be the first year all three will be present and Landon can compete.

“I’ve ran from junior dragsters, bracket raced, street raced legally and illegally, small tire no time, ultra street, all sorts of index and street car shootouts,” said Michael. “I’ve raced a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 in the past, but never did a week-long drag-and-drive because we couldn’t all fit in the truck. That’s the whole reason I bought the Malibu. We race as a family.”

Packing a 408 cubic inch LS-swap by Ochs Performance, Michael added a custom nitrous plate by Nitrous Express that has been machined and dropped into the intake, where the flat hood would clear everything, A Turbo 400 3-speed automatic Freakshow Performance backs the mill.

The Malibu has already made an appearance on KOTOR (King Of The Open Road) in Oklahoma the last two years, picking up a class win each time. 2024 will mark the first time where dad and son will both compete with it.

“We’re shooting for Rocky Mountain Race Week (RMRW) 2.0 and Edelbrock Sick 66 this year,” said Michael. “I plan to run 10.00 or 11.00 index, and my son will drive it in Junior Street at RMRW.”

“It’s everything for me,” Michael admitted about drag-and-drive. “I love cruising with my dad and my kid. I raced heads up small tire stuff for years, but drag-and-drive is just a blast because it’s so laid back.”
