There’s a New Stick Shift King – Nick Cole-Mann Claims Quickest H-Pattern Stick Shift World Record with a 6.49 at 219 MPH Pass at US 131 Motorsports Park
Heralded as the first to break into the 6-second range with a LS engine and a H-pattern manual transmission, Nick Cole-Mann also solidified his status as just the sixth driver to clock a 6-second time slip with a H-pattern manual transmission.
That 6.95 at 195 mph pass at Orlando Speed World Dragway on January 21st of 2023 was just the beginning, as Cole-Mann would continue to strive for quicker and faster time slips.

By the start of 2024, Cole-Mann was inching his way closer to Jonathan Atkins, the elapsed time record holder at 6.615. That ET mark was set at the popular FL2K event in October of 2022 at Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Florida, but it would be the original “2K” where Cole-Mann and Atkins would battle it out in March this year, the 25th anniversary of TX2K at Texas Motorplex.
Cole-Mann and Atkins qualified number one and number two, with Cole-Mann on top with a 6.81 at 212 mph, and Atkins close behind at 6.84 with a 214 mph speed. They worked their way to the final round, where Cole-Mann lit the red light by a painful one thousandth of-a-second, handing Atkins the win.
Undeterred, Cole-Mann would be back on the testing kick less than a month later at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan. The twin-turbo `91 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up moved into the number two spot on the H-pattern manual transmission list, and pushed the LS stick shift record a bit quicker as well, clocking a 6.64 at 209 mph.
“The only thing that separates me and that number one spot is a warmer race track,” Cole-Mann posted.
That warmer race track showed up at a test session today at US 131 Motorsports Park. Cole-Mann lined up for a shot at the record, and just over 6-second later, the scoreboards flashed 6.600 seconds at 210 mph, moving him to the top of the list.
But Cole-Mann wasn’t done quite yet. Just over an hour later, Nick reset his own record, and became the first to the 6.4-second range: a 6.495 at a staggering 219.51 mph, claiming the quickest elapsed time and the second-fastest speed for a H-pattern stick shift car!
