The Final Dodge Challenger Roll Off Assembly Line; Final Chevrolet Camaro is Close Behind – Are Modern American Muscle Cars About to Become Extinct?

Nearly six decades after the first Dodge Charger rolled off the assembly line, the final production Dodge Challenger and Charger models have left the line at the Brampton Assembly Plant in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.

The final L-platform (the chassis that includes Challenger and Charger models) ride was a 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, completed Friday December 22nd, and scheduled to go to a customer.

Dodge had given notice to potential customers that the end of July 2023 would be the deadline to get an order in for a Charger or Challenger, signaling an end to the Charger’s third generation that started in 2006, and the Challenger latest design that was first offered as a 2008 model.

On the heels of this news, the final 2024 model Camaro is due to be delivered soon, signaling the end of the sixth generation Camaro, with no immediate successor named.

The last Camaro built is a Summit White ZL1 with the 1LE package and a manual transmission, and it is rumored to be headed for the GM Heritage Collection. Chevrolet has stated “this will not the end of Camaro’s story,” but nothing more has come to light.

As we reported in March this year, the departure of the Camaro, as well as the Challenger and Charger, would leave only the Ford Mustang as the last-remaining American pony / muscle car.

The new S650-chassis Mustang that debuted as a 2024 model is  scheduled to stay in production until 2030.
