Sturgis Dragway Gets A Second Chance, as New Leaseholder Details Plans to Re-Open in 2025

We’ve detailed several race tracks being built in the last two years, and unfortunately as well as covering some of the closures that happen as well.

But occasionally we also get to cover race tracks coming back to life after sitting inactive, and news recently came up about Sturgis Dragway in South Dakota.

We covered the future of Sturgis Dragway earlier this year in a story HERE, as the track and Black Hill Dragway LLC could not find common ground on a lease for 2024.

The track’s condition was recently brought to light by a couple posts on social media, first by CycleDrag during their visit to Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Their photos showed high grass in multiple areas, but thankfully no damage to the facility. They asked the question: “What do you think the future holds?”

Just four days later, the question was answered by Facebook page ‘Born in chaos, dyin’ in chaos’ with details about what they plan for the track:

“We have been pretty silent about this until now. It’s time to make the announcement- we have taken over the Sturgis Dragstrip! We initially had plans to open for a few days during the (Sturgis Motorcycle) Rally, BUT we need to focus on updates to the infrastructure and make some new additions.”

“The goal is to be open by late April 2025 and run through September with a very busy season ahead! Next year’s rally we will be open every day, and plan to have a number of vendors there along with racing daily!”

They also dropped a brief video covering their plans to bring the facility back to life:

Work at the facility has already started, with grass being cut and notations of what will be needed to fix for the upcoming season. Can they make the April 2025 goal happen?
