Sick Week 2022 In Review: Breaking Through the Fog in Gainesville on Day Three

As we navigate the first week of a new year, we are less than seven weeks away from Sick Week 2023!

But lots of cool things happened at the 2022 edition of Sick Week, and we’re up to Day 3 in our Sick Week 2022 In Review.

Day three put the action back on track following a rainy travel day where action was cancelled at Orlando Speed World Dragway. Gainesville Raceway, a track with over 50 years of racing history, would greet competitors and spectators alike with early morning fog. But once the sun broke through and the track was ready, the drag-and-drive community was anxious to add their own chapter to the history books!

Tom Bailey had officially dropped out of competition in Unlimited following a 6.26 at 236 mph pass at Bradenton, and Stefan Gustafsson stepped up to take the top spot with a 6.83 at 218 mph in Gainesville.

Shawn Fink wheeled his 1955 Chevrolet to his first-ever 6-second pass, a 6.95 at 204 mph, to stay right behind Steve Morris’ Boostmaster wagon, which produced a second-straight 6.8-second pass at 215 mph to lead the Unlimited Iron class.

The top two drag radial-equipped cars, Mikael Borggren and Rick Prospero, traded the number one and two spots in the Modified class, with both racers clocking 203 mph blasts.

A solid day of racing was capped just as the sun was setting, giving participants a cool evening drive to southern Georgia to prepare for day four at South Georgia Motorsports Park.
